Beschreibung
A first-hand account of the Russo-Japanese War, in a charming leather binding. Written by Sir Ian Standish Monteith Hamilton, a senior officer in the British Army. H Today, Hamilton is best known for commanding the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force during the Gallipoli Campaign of World War I. This is the first edition of the first volume. A second volume of this work later followed in 1907. Illustrated, with sixteen maps and sketches, in addition to seventeen plates. Collated, complete. During the Russo-Japanese War Hamilton was the military attache of the British Indian Army serving alongside the Japanese in Manchuria. He was the first military attache from Western countries to arrive after the start of the war. Therefore, this is a very interesting account of the Russo-Japanese war, from one of the key players. In a half calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, smart with patches of light rubbing to the head and tail of spine as well as the joints. Light rubbing to the extremities. Light rubbing to the spine, mostly to the head and tail. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Gift inscription to the recto of front endpaper, dated 1947. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Patches of heavy spotting to frontispiece and foredge. Spotting throughout is mostly to the plates, particularly to the edges which have offset to pages. Otherwise, occasional spots. Very Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers LTH26-H-13
