Beschreibung
[nice tight copy, minimal shelfwear, just a touch of soiling/age-toning to edges of text block, vintage price sticker (from the San Francisco department store The White House) on rear pastedown; jacket has a light diagonal smudge line (about 2 inches long) at bottom of front panel, minor surface wear here and there]. "True tales of the French Foreign Legion with all the quick-moving action, breathless adventure and desert lure that marks 'Beau Geste,'" this author's best-known work. Seventeen stories, all pre-dating the "Beau" trilogy (all of which were published in the 1920s); this collection was originally published in the U.K. in 1917 and 1918, but the presence of full-jacket-flap blurbs for "Beau Sabreur" and "Beau Geste" date this otherwise undated edition as 1927 -- its publication no doubt juiced by the appearance of the popular BEAU GESTE film version (starring Ronald Colman), released the previous year. (The list of "Stokes' Latest Novels" on the rear jacket panel -- all 1927 releases -- provides further confirmation.). Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 19737
