Many of us no longer have a grandmother or an aunt to advise us on the best way to put techniques into practice. Most patterns on the market tell us how to knit a specific item but often have nothing to say about finishing techniques. As a knitter, you need assurance that you are working properly, and will finish up with a product that others will recognize as hand made and professionally finished--not merely "home made." How many times have you worked carefully on a knitted item only to be disappointed with the finished result once you have put its parts together? "All Stitched Up" aims to take the "scare factor" away from your finishing techniques with step-by-step illustrations and photographs to help you to decide the best way to achieve professional finished results. The book beginswith a simple refresher class on basic techniques. Chapters that follow cover elements of finishing, from the best stitches for sewing to embellishment, beading, and color work. Inhaltsangabe: Close-up color photos capture every stage of knitting technique and add meaning to the book’s step-by-step instructions, enabling needlecrafters to master more than 50 different methods. They include ladder and mattress stitches, sewing sleeves to body, making button holes, picking up hems and necklines, making pockets, turning rows, casting off with a crochet hook, embellishing with bobbles and tassels, creating knitted flowers and lace, and many more. Detailed instructions for finished projects include a patchwork cushion, a buttoned vest, a cardigan, a knitted purse, and a traditional round-neck sweater. There are more than 250 photos, information on materials and equipment for getting started, a glossary of knitting terms, and even web site resources. Both expert knitters and those who are relatively new to knitting will learn how to give knitted items that truly professional touch.

Knitting as a hobby has gone through countless phases of popularity since its invention thousands of years ago. Many of us no longer have a grandmother or an aunt to advise us on the best way to put techniques into practice. Most patterns on the market tell us how to knit a specific item but often have nothing to say about finishing techniques.

As a knitter, you need assurance that you are working properly, and will finish up with a product that others will recognize as hand made and professionally finished--not merely ?home made.? How many times have you worked carefully on a knitted item only to be disappointed with the finished result once you have put its parts together?

All Stitched Up aims to take the ?scare factor? away from your finishing techniques with step-by-step illustrations and photographs to help you to decide the best way to achieve professional finished results.

The book begins with a simple refresher class on basic techniques. Chapters that follow cover elements of finishing, from the best stitches for sewing to embellishment, beading, and color work. Clear step-by-step illustrations and photos will guide you the entire way. Finally, you?ll find a chapter of projects designed to match all knitters? capabilities, from beginner to expert. Small swatch samples show how different techniques or colorways can change an item?s appearance. The objective of each project is to expand your creative horizon and give you the confidence you need to adapt existing patterns to suit your wishes and capabilities.
