Guns 1038: A writer of Hough s ability, with a following of readers who believed in the authenticity of his accounts, should certainly have made an independent investigation of his subjects and not merely repeated the earlier fables, even to incorrect names. Before writing this book, however, he visited New Mexico again and looked up Pat Garrett. First edition. First Edition, First State with rules at top of page V. Pictorial Boards with Cloth spine. xiv, 401pp., illus. Hough wrote many works of fiction and non-fiction, many with a western setting, before he died in 1923. An early classic account of lawlessness in the West. Much misinformation. An attractive clean, tight near fine copy. Two photographs laid-in: one a photo postcard of the "old headquarters of Judge Roy Bean. The other a photograph of a long-haired man standing, in cowboy attire, with a pistol on his right hip. Although the bottom edge has been trimmed, it appears to be the name Eagle Jack written on the negative. Why these photographs are laid-in we are unsure of, but they remain with the book.
