(fascicoli monografici di «Linguarum Varietas», 3, 2014 - 4, 2015) -- The proceedings of the International Colloquium on 'Strategies of Translation' (Köln, 17-18. 12. 2010) that form the contents of the volumes 3 and 4 of «Linguarum Varietas», consist of a wide-ranging contrastive analysis of topics pertaining to various languages with different methodological approaches in the perspective of practices of translation. Languages and related topics range within a vast chronological, geographical and cultural frame from Indo-European family of both antiquity (Latin and Italic Languages, Greek, Hittite and other Anatolian languages, Slavic, Baltic Germanic and Celtic group) and medieval period (Romance languages) to non-Indo-European languages, such as old Egyptian. A great variety of linguistic aspects is taken into account with respect to translation, such as lexicon and proper names (particularly god and personal names), technical terminology, syntactic structures, formulaic expressions, specific domains, such as religion, law and public communication in their stylistic variations.
