Slight scuffing of the spine to v.I, slight fading to v.II, a very good set. *GARRISON-MORTON #6411 - Volume I, with a Preface by OSLER, was issued in 1917. Each volume stands independently, and whereas v.I is mostly concerned with mediaeval studies, v.2 covers a much wider field. Singer's essay in v.1, on Hildegard of Bingen, was much in advance of its time when written. The six other studies in v.1 include his contribution on early Renaissance anatomy, CRAWFURD on epilepsy, WITHINGTON on Weyer and Witch Mania, LEVY on Maimonides and SCHILLER on Scientific Discovery and Logical Proof. In volume 2, Singer has written a chapter on Greek Biology, J. M. CHILD on Archimedes' Principle and ARTHUR PLATT on Aristotle's view of the Heart. There are additional chapters on the development of the first optical apparatus (SINGER), History of Palaeontology (ARBER), the scientific works of Galileo (FAHIE), the Asclepiadae (WITHINGTON), the history of anatomical injections (COLE), Leonardo as anatomist (HOPSTOCK), Roger Bacon (STEELE) and others.
