Hardcover. Zustand: VERY GOOD. xvi, 226, 70pp. 8vo, sewn binding in pale green cloth. Arabic text with English translation and introduction. Some light wear to the covers, spine faintly faded, clean and fresh text with tight, square binding. Long out of print and quite a scarce text in print. 'Râz?'s *Munâzarât fi bilâd mà wara' an-nahr*, the text of which is here published together with a translation and commentary, is essentially an autobiographical' account of some sixteen disputes that the author had with several eminent scholars of the Hanafite-Mâturidite school during a journey that took him through a number of centers in Transoxiana, beginning with Bukhara and ending with Ghazna, most probably during the years 580/1184-582/1186. The subjects of the discussions range widely from questions concerning the detail of figh (Q. 1 and 15), through philosophy (e.g., Q. 16 on the eternity of the world) and pure theology (e.g., Q. 13 on the taklif mâ lâ yutâq) and the criticism of Shahrastâni's Kitâb al-Milal wan-Nihal (Q. 10). The text is presented in a meticulously executed critical form and supplied with indices, both Arabic and English, of proper names and technical terms, as well as a separate listing of the Arabic-English equivalents of the text and translation. The editor has also included a wel documented accoung of Razi's life and works (pp. 9-25) and, in an appendix, an alphabetical list of his works which represents some improvement over those hitherto published.
