Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Herein is many a tale told among Lake George by old-timers, steamboat men, folks who lumbered, farmed and hunted the lake's mountains and by authors of old guideboats to the area. Some quite accurately reflect life along the lake in days gone by. Others will be read with a smile since like many an Adirondack story they are unashamedly tall. The book deals primarily with the lake in the 19th century. This was the great age of steam which lasted into the early years of the 1900s. Steamboats played a large role in the book. As stagecoaches and the railroads brought more and more tourists and vacationers, lumbering on the lake's shores and mountains declined. Hotels and summer homes came to dot the area. The lake became world famous for its beauty. The people mentioned in the book were or are living people whose tales, escapades or way of life became known to the author through a lifetime of association with the region. Profusely illustrated with historic photos and sketches. 169 pp. Bibliography. New hardcover in a new, mylar covered, unclipped dust jacket. The photos on the listing page are of the actual book for sale. Always carefully packaged and shipped quickly, often same day. …
