Systematic Theology — Scripture Defines Scripture
Volume 24: The Doctrine of Faithfulness in the World
Christian Witness, Stewardship, Authority, Suffering, and Endurance Until the Lord Comes
What does Scripture require of the believer in the world God has placed him in?
Life is not an accident or a private possession to be used however we please. It belongs to God and has been placed into our care. The believer’s body, time, work, household, opportunities, authority, resources, relationships, suffering, witness, and hope must all be handled faithfully before Him.
In Systematic Theology — Scripture Defines Scripture, Volume 24: The Doctrine of Faithfulness in the World, Jeff C. Edwards presents a comprehensive biblical study of the responsibilities God entrusts to individual believers and how those responsibilities should be carried until Christ returns.
Drawing from the whole counsel of Scripture, this volume examines:
- The believer as a steward of the life and resources God has given
- Faithfulness with the body, time, abilities, work, and possessions
- Responsibility within marriage, family, household, and community
- Delegated authority and biblical submission
- Christian liberty governed by truth, love, and conscience
- Civil responsibility and the limits of obedience to human authority
- Honest labor, entrusted property, fiduciary duty, and financial integrity
- Public witness and representing Christ before the world
- Suffering for righteousness’ sake without retaliation or compromise
- Discernment, steadfastness, and endurance in evil days
- Holding fast the faith when others depart
- Watching for the Lord without speculation, idleness, or date-setting
- Finishing the course and being found faithful at Christ’s coming
Biblical faithfulness is not measured primarily by fame, wealth, influence, visible success, or the apparent size of a person’s assignment. God does not give every servant the same abilities, opportunities, authority, resources, or length of service. He requires each believer to be faithful with what has actually been placed into his hands.
This volume also shows that biblical doctrine was never given merely to organize information or fill the mind. Truth is meant to shape a life. The doctrines of Scripture call the believer to worship, obedience, courage, humility, endurance, service, and hope.
As the concluding volume of the twenty-four-volume Systematic Theology — Scripture Defines Scripture series, this book brings the entire doctrinal journey to its practical and personal conclusion. Yet it is also written to stand alone as a complete biblical study of Christian stewardship, responsibility, witness, suffering, endurance, and readiness for the return of Christ.
The final question is not merely how much truth the believer understands.
It is whether that truth governed the life God placed into his care.
A sweeping biblical call to faithful stewardship, loyalty under pressure, and finishing well before the Lord.
