First Florence Anderson edition. 4to. Blue pictorial cloth. A very good copy indeed, spine gilt a little dulled. Early ownership inscription to front free endpaper. Twelve colour plates by Florence Mary Anderson, as well as line drawings in the text. Florence Anderson's depiction of fairies and elfin folk are wonderfully evocative, using a vibrant colour palette and Art Nouveau lines. Whilst of these stories had been published in an earlier unillustrated volume, others appear in print here for the first time, with the addition of the illustration by Anderson. First edition thus - the work was originally published in 1906, and this is a reprint with considerable additions and coloured illustrations. Some of the stories had also appeared previously in the pages of "Country Life". ix, 132pp., 12 colour plates including the frontispiece, and many line drawings within the text. Lady Margaret Sackville (1881-1963) was an English poet and children's author. The illustrator is Florence Mary Anderson (1893-1972), an artist and stage designer. This is a beautifully illustrated collection of short stories of fairies, goblins, and witches, etc., written for the older child. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and black titling with a black, white and brown illustration on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some light soiling to the boards and some slight bubbling to the cloth on the fore edge of the front board. The spine is slightly faded with bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the half-title page and last page. There is no inscription.
