These short stories are written by the imaginary character Jedediah Cleishbotham, school master and Parish-clerk of Gandcercleigh, actually written by the famous Sir Walter Scott. Second Series. There were originally four series of which overall there are seven short stories. These four volumes are of the first three stories, there are two identical copies of 'The Heart of Milothian'. The other two stories are 'The Black Dwarf' and 'Old Mortality'. These short stories are all set in Scotland during the 1700s and are meant to depict a sense of Scottish regional life. In full calf bindings. Externally, all the front joints are cracking and all the rear joints are starting but firm. Internally, all firmly bound, with some occasional age toning and a few scattered spots. The title page of one copy of volume three, 'The Heart of Midlothian' is incorrectly entitled as volume one.
