Beschreibung

Beschreibung:

Small folio (180 x 303 mm). 67 ff. Persian manuscript on blue watermarked paper. 17 lines of black nasta'liq script, chapter headings in red, ruled in gilt and black. With 3 fine miniatures and illuminated 'unwan; first two leaves illuminated with floral borders and gilt. Contemporary floral painted and lacquered boards. A particularly beautiful manuscript of the Tarikh-i-Muhammadi chronicle, which begins with the life of Muhammad and proceeds to the 15th century. This copy, which features three painted miniatures, includes text from the third of the four parts of the chronicle. In a slip of paper tipped in on the final leaf, a contemporary English hand has noted the particular contents as "being a history the Princes of Ázarbáiján, Ispahan and Asterábád". - The traditional Iranian painted boards, the paper dyed a delicate blue, and the painted miniatures make this quite a pretty copy, and a good example of the late manuscript tradition. The miniatures each show scenes of battle, with the gory details of lost heads and limbs carefully included. - Binding rebacked, lightly worn. Altogether an elegant copy.
