This book is inspired by my incredible, life-changing opportunities of traveling and living in Europe. Trips with friends and visiting many countries on the back roads of Europe in a beat-up 1983 Volkswagen van, I found many of these same flavors and the wonderful connection people have to their food here in Santa Barbara. These chapters include highlights and themed menus around each country's most prominent flavors, circling back to Santa Barbara, California for an eclectic mesh from faraway lands. Favorite dishes from the Mediterranean Coast, featuring Tapas from Spain, Pissaladiere and Cherry Clafouti from Provence, Panzanella and Homemade Mascarpone from Tuscany, Potato Skordalia and Souvlaki from the Greek Islands, Borekas, Falafel Chicken and Chicken Shawarma from the Middle East and Bastilla, Chermoula and Tagine from Morocco. My years of traveling in the Mediterranean have given me a wealth of memorable experiences. I have had the privilege of eating in generous people’s homes, at simple street stalls and fashionable restaurants in dozens of cities and villages. I love entertaining—it is a great way to get everyone together for a relaxed evening in the comfort of your own home. This varied collection of recipes, inspired by my travels, has been simplified for the home cook and the recipes can be adapted to individual tastes and to include seasonal offerings. Whether you are looking for a quick weeknight dinner or getting ready to entertain a group of friends, this book features many delicious and colorful recipes perfect for eating and entertaining, offering a Taste of Santa Barbara with a Mediterranean vibe.
Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor: Robin Goldstein is a California chef who works her culinary magic combining unique flavors with seasonal local products. As a professional chef, for over 30 years, Robin has made a successful career providing an intimate, home-cooked experience that is anything but traditional, using classic techniques she honed at the Culinary Institute of America in New York and as a caterer, event planner, food writer, instructor and food consultant, Robin fuses together flavors inspired by her extensive travel throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. Robin has a lifelong passion and love of cooking, and the rituals and traditions it creates. Through her travels and working abroad for many years, she has developed a flavorful Mediterranean cooking style. Her cookbooks A Taste of Ojai, A Collection of Small Plates and A Taste of Santa Barbara, Crafting a Meal infuse the distinctive and unforgettable flavors of the Mediterranean. When Robin is not busy cooking and running her private chef business, she can be found spending hours infusing handcrafted salts for her line of culinary salt and spice blends, developing new recipes for local cooking classes and offering chef demonstrations of her recipes from her two cookbooks. Robin lives in an oak shaded neighborhood in the Ojai Valley, surrounded by nature and the scenic beauty of the local mountains that Ojai is famed for.
