Beschreibung
In earlier red boards, not brown. Tenth in the series, copyright 1929, but while this copy lists only through No. 9 "Flying Against Time" (1929) to jacket front panel, later internal ads list 11 Teds through "Lost at the South Pole" (1930), giving us our most likely print date. Jacket rear panel lists 8 Hardy Boys through "Mystery of Cabin Island" (1929), as do the internal ads. A very good book in a jacket which probably WOULD HAVE graded "very good" (despite some chipping to head of spine) though we downgrade to "good" in light of the 3/4-inch sticker pull right in the middle of the jacket front panel. (Charming jacket illustration shows our young aviators -- armed only with axes as they're interrupted clearing a downed tree trunk that blocks their takeoff -- about to be attacked by a swarm of spear-wielding indigenous characters who appear to be clad in . . . grass skirts?) Glossy B&W frontispiece, no internal illustrations. Tiny bookseller's sticker to rear pastedown indicates this book originally sold at Dalton Bros. Books, Oakland. Purportedly by the author of The Hardy Boys adventures, though in fact Dixon was a "house name" of the Stratemeyer Syndicate, in this case reportedly used by one Frank Duffield. The Ted Scott adventures reportedly outsold Leslie McFarlane's Hardy Boys series by a good margin, during their early years. Boys' juvenile series adventure. 214 pp. followed by 5 pp. publisher's ads. Reduced from $33. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 011843
