Does your organization suffer from any of these issues?

• Departments or data systems are siloed.
• Cross-functional communication is lacking.
• Decisions take too long to make.
• Lack of trust in the accuracy of the ERP data.

Think it Forward provides a roadmap to address these issues and demonstrates the positive outcomes when employees consider the impact of their actions on the people, systems, and information within the organization.
Most organizations don't underperform because of bad strategy. They underperform because people don't understand how their work connects to the company’s goals, or how their actions impact others. Think it Forward is a business fable that presents, from the inside of an imaginary company, a framework that shifts how people think about their work, their colleagues, the systems they use, and the connections between every action taken in one department and the unintended consequences felt in another.

Think it Forward introduces the 3 Nodes of Knowledge (3NoK)—a practical methodology for aligning a company—based on three deceptively simple questions every employee, in every department, at every level in the organization, should be able to answer:

• What do I do?
• Who do I impact?
• Who impacts me?

3NoK is the means to do this and is applicable to goal setting, business process improvement, and ERP utilization across the organization. It reframes every role, handoff, transaction, and cross-functional relationship around the concept of internal customers and internal suppliers, revealing the interconnectedness among all entities in the company and the importance of them working together.

Jim McNeil, CPIM-F, CSCP, CIRM, brings four decades of global supply chain experience to Think It Forward. The organizational problems solved—the backorders, the siloed departments, the inaccurate ERP data, the blaming culture—is told with the voice of someone who has lived and solved these problems. The characters in the story are the people in every organization, written with enough specificity and empathy that readers will recognize colleagues, direct reports, and perhaps themselves in the pages.

Think it Forward is written for:

• mid-level managers, directors, and operations leaders who know something is broken in their organizations and are looking for a practical model to fix it.
• leaders who have sat in cross-functional meetings and watched the same arguments happen again and again.
• anyone who has inherited a team that’s technically functional but organizationally fragmented.
• executives who need their people to understand not just their own jobs, but how those jobs connect to the work happening around them.
• front-line employees and individual contributors who want to understand how their work fits into the bigger picture—and why that connection matters.

3 Nodes of Knowledge is a structure for thinking—a different mindset with a set of questions that, asked consistently and answered honestly, change how people understand their role and how they perform their jobs in the larger system they’re part of.

The best business books change how people see their work. The best business fiction changes how people see themselves in it. Think it Forward does both.
