A Hakluyt Society publication detailing privateer Martin Frobisher's journey to Baffin Island, Canada, during the late sixteenth century. Complete with numerous maps and diagrams and an unclipped dust wrapper. Sir Martin Frobisher (c1535-1594) was an English seaman remembered for his three voyages to the New World, where he landed on Baffin Island, the largest island in Canada, where on his second voyage, he discovered what he believed to be gold ore, which he transported home by sea. He subsequently returned to Baffin Island and dug a number of mines and returned to England with 1,350 tons of the ore, which was found to be worthless hornblende years later.This work details his third voyage, taken in 1578 to retrieve more ore.Published by the Hakluyt Society, a publication society founded in 1846, specialising in scholarly editions of records of historic exploration, voyages and geographical primary sources. Dust wrapper has the slightest wear to the head and a small amount of loss to the text of the rear board, but is otherwise in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound.
