Limited ed. 1928, near fine, private press. In quarter cream cloth with red marbled boards. Spine, title in gilt to black paper label. Clear paper DW a little chipped at edges. Internally, bookplate of Margery Wright to fpd, limitation lead, French title leaf, half title, title page, [7], 8-76 pp, [2], 5 pls (coloured), an edition limited to 1500 copies for sale in the US and UK, printed by The Westminster Press, 411A Harrow Road, London W9. All housed in its original grey card box, titles to paper label on upper cover. Title continues: After the French version entitled "Tangu et Felime", by Monsieur e la Harpe, Member of the French Academy, published in Paris in 1780, and now done into English by Sir Frank Swettenham. With Marilliers five illustrations reproduced from the French edition. teg remainder uncut, some leaves uncut. Swettenham, colonial administrator, was a better than average watercolour painter and writer, initially of specialized papers on Malay subjects and Malay dictionaries. His early books, Malay Sketches (1895) and The Real Malay (1899), vividly depict nineteenth-century Malaya and evince a deep knowledge of Malay rural life.
