Beschreibung

Signed by Author. SIGNED BY THE ARTIST. 'Kurt Jackson was born in Blandford, Dorset, England in 1961, and attended secondary school in St Albans, to the north of London. Although he graduated with Honours in Zoology from Oxford University in 1983, he freely admits to having spent much more time drawing and painting than studying for the degree. He has travelled extensively, painting his way through Europe, Latin America and Africa. Most of his early travels were eventful if not dangerous, depending on your viewpoint. A self-taught painter, Jackson can be found outside in all weathers painting the local coastline and landscape around St.Just, in which Kenidjack, Cot Valley and Cape Cornwall feature heavily. Travel is still important to him and several times a year the Jackson family - Kurt, Caroline, Seth, Zinzi and Chloè, will trek off to Greece, France, Ireland, Spain and their beloved Isles of Scilly. He is a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists and a Royal West of England Academician (RWA). His work has been exhibited extensively in one-man shows in the UK, Ireland, Brittany and Germany. He has staged major shows in London's Cork Street, in the English Cotswolds, the Lake District and other parts of the North of England and in Dublin, Ireland. He always has work at the Great Atlantic Map Works Gallery in his hometown of St Just, in West Cornwall and has had major solo shows there annually since 1997. The "Tinners Way" project continues the long series of outdoor topographic and industrial themes that has occupied Kurt Jackson over the past 6 years. These include: "Painting the Path of the Sun" (1997) - a series of paintings made around the coast of the Land's End peninsula at every hour during the long summer days of June and July, from dawn on Penzance sea front to sunset at Botallack cliffs. Then in the year of the total eclipse of the Sun in West Cornwall, 1999, he produced "Crossing the Peninsula, painting the line of totality", followed in the spring of 2000 with "A3071 - The Road to St Just". In 1996 he made a series of paintings underground in "South Crofty the last working tin mine in Britain". He followed this with a series on the men and the working life of "Carnsew Granite Quarry" near Penryn, Cornwall. In the winter of 2000/2001 he produced a body of work at "Delabole Slate Quarry" in North Cornwall. After touring southern England, the Delabole work goes to venues in the Appalachian Slate Belt of New York state and Vermont in North America in 2002. Jackson brings qualities of determination, drive, advanced planning and foresight to his art. As a leading contemporary landscape painter, he has done much to focus renewed attention on the wealth of artistic talent in this heavily romanticised but otherwise neglected region of Britain.
