Judy Saalinger, Ph.D. MFT, CAS, holds a doctorate in communication, and a masters of science degree in counseling education. She is licensed as a marriage, family therapist, a certified addiction specialist (American Academy of Health Care Providers in the Addictive Disorders), is certified as a California community college instructor and parenting instructor. Since 1981, Dr. Judy Saalinger has worked treating the effects of addictions, trauma, physical pain and issues related to change within individuals, couples, families and the workplace through treatment centers and her private practice. She is a training provider for CAADAC, (California Association for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors) and CAADE (California Association of Alcohol and Drug Educators). She has recently authored the book, FEARLESS CHANGE – Embrace the Choice to Reinvent Your Life.
Lectures and Workshops
A presenter at conferences on chemical dependency, she has also developed and facilitated over 200 workshops for residential and hospital treatment programs, corporations, religious, academic, and military organizations in San Diego County. She has consulted and/or presented workshops to patients, staff, participants and employees of organizations including, University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine, California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, (CAADAC), California Association of Alcohol and Drug Educators, (CAADE), Disabled American Veterans, Scripps-Mac Donald Center, Options for Recovery, Turning Point Recovery Home, Catholic Social Services, United States Navy, City of San Diego, Blue Cross of California, WellPoint Behavioral Health, Mail Boxes, Etc., and Qualcomm, Inc. She is currently presenting the workshop, FEARLESS CHANGE The Road of Recovery, around the country.
Radio & Television
A broadcast veteran, Dr. Judy Saalinger can be heard nationally on a variety of radio talk shows and news reports throughout the country talking about substance abuse, interventions, family recovery and FEARELSS CHANGE. In the past she logged over 300 hours spanning five years (1987-1993) as a guest on the "Bill Ballance Radio Talk Show" on KFMB out of San Diego, CA., focusing on such topics as chemical dependency in the individual and family, co-dependency, self-esteem, women’s recovery, grief, personal power, anger management, sexuality, and intimacy in relationships, work and family balance, communication, parenting, career development and goal setting.
Community Involvement
Dr. Judy Saalinger has served on the boards of directors of Vista Hill Hospital’s Women’s Treatment Program, YWCA, and Employee Assistance Professionals Association. She served as Chapter President of the California Women’s Commission on Alcohol and Drug Dependencies from 1985-90. Recently, she has been active in the Prevention Connection, a school district board implementing prevention programs and awareness to reduce uptake of tobacco, drugs and alcohol in school aged children.
