A very smart, five volume leather bound set of A Topographical History of Surrey. This is a smart, leather bound, complete set of six volumes of Edward Wedlake Brayley's A topographical History of Surrey. These volumes have a geological section written by Gideon Mantell, with the illustrations being overseen by Thomas Allom.The volumes are copiously illustrated throughout the text with wood engravings and each have a frontispiece.Volume I has sixteen steel engravings, one is folding. Collated, complete.Volume II has sixteen steel engravings, one of which is folding, plate to face page 221 missing. Collated.Volume III has nineteen steel engravings on of which one is folding, plate to face page 106 missing. Collated.Volume IV has thirty-five steel engravings. Collated, complete.Volume V has forty-one steel engravings two of the plates are folding. Collated, complete.Edward Wedlake Brayley was an English historian and topographer and collaborated with John Britton on the first six volumes of The Beauties of England and Wales. In half calf leather binding with green cloth covered boards. Externally, generally smart. The spines are faded and there are a few marks to the boards.
