Tall Octavo. All six parts (no. 173 [Oct. 1864]-178 [Mar. 1865], Later, published in book form in 1869 as Adventures in the Apache County: A Tour Through Arizona. J. Ross Browne and his friend Charles Poston toured Southern Arizona as part of a private inspection of mines and mineral resources. This is one of the earliest and most detailed descriptions of the history, people, and prospects of the Territory. Browne was a fine storyteller whose account includes highlights that still are fascinating reading today. The dozens of drawings interspersed throughout the text represent rare early depictions of mines, missions, towns, and villages as well as the fear of the Apache. Complete issues with all six parts are rare. A lovely copy bound in three-quarter black morocco over marbled paper covered boards, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, marbled endpapers.
