VG, 2nd ed, 16 pls, 1781. In contemporary speckled calf boards, a few marks, edges and corners bumped and worn slightly. Modern calf spine, to style, raised bands, gilt tooling, title in gilt to red calf label. Internally, half title, frontist, [4], (xii), [1], 2-214 pp, 16 pl (of 16), [1] errata, red speckled text block edges, plates dated either 1780 or 1781, ink name to fpd (M Cholmeley, probably Sir Montague Cholmeley 1772-1831), some light offsetting, title page has ink note at base ref author, tp, verso has ink name (M Cholmeley Easton 1793). A lovely copy. (ESTC T68768. Allibone 2876). Title continues: Made in the Months of June and July 1774 and in the Months of June, July and August 1777. Wyndham, topographer, who in 1774 visited Wales, and in the following year he published anonymously A Gentleman's Tour through Monmouthshire, and Wales. He revisited the area in 1777, and in 1781 published his Tour through Monmouthshire and Wales, declaring his authorship of the work. He was accompanied on his journey of 1777 by the Swiss watercolourist Samuel Hieronymus Grimm, whose works illustrated the account. See ODNB for a full Bio & Wiki.
