Finely bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe in polished calf, elaborate gilt spine with five raised bands, gilt-lettered titling and date. Cover with gilt design of quill pen, antique crayon holder, and a ribbon. (Geoffrey Crayon.) Bookplate of a nearly 1900's prominent Clevelander. The first American edition of Irving's narrative of his trip to the Indian Territory in 1832. With printing mistake page 247: "binger of dawn" Only 5,000 copies of the first printing were produced, making this title fairly uncommon. A fine copy. GRAFF 2159.
