Beschreibung
A fully illustrated work on the history of Touraine in France, with coloured plates of coats of arms, written by Stanislas Bellanger. This work is an interesting history of the Touraine province in France. Touraine was often a favourite residence of the French Kings, and was visited by Joan of Arc in 1429 for a historic meeting with Charles VII. Notable people such as the writer Honore de Balzac, the philosopher Rene Descartes and the poet Alfred de Vigny. Written by Stanislas Bellanger, and with a preface by L'Abbe Orsini. Illustrated by Th. Frere, Breviere, Lacoste aine L. Noel, Mauduison, Engelmann and Graf, Ernest Meyer, Giniex, de Bar, and more With thirty-four plates, six of which are chromolithographed , and twenty-eight are lithographed, as well as numerous monochrome in-text illustrations. Five of the chromolithographed plates show the various coats of arms of Tours, each illustration stating which family they come from. Collated, complete. Two of the plates are misbound; the plate supposed to be facing page two-hundred and fifty-four is actually facing page two-hundred and thirty-four, and the plate that is supposed to be facing page five-hundred and fifty-eight is actually facing page five-hundred and thirty-eight. With three chromolithographed dedication pages to the front, and a chromolithographed title page. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front free endpaper, 'Anna Marie Priney, Tours 1854 - May'. In the original full crushed morocco binding. Externally, with marking to the boards, causing some discolouration. A little fading to the spine, joints, and to the head of the rear board. Some patches of rubbing to the boards and joints, resulting in some loss to the front joint and top edge of the front board. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light marking to the boards. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front free endpaper. Some light marks to the rear endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spotting, being heavier to the plates, and to the first and last few pages. Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 620P24
