Fisher Unwin.Illustrated with forty chromolithograph plates, heightened by hand. Collated, complete.The plates are by anti-fascist illustrator Walter Trier, who emigrated to London in 1936 due to the opposition he faced by the Nazi's due to his illustrations condemning them. This was published prior to his emigration, when he still worked in Prague and Germany.During the war, Trier helped the British Ministry of Information produce anti-Nazi leaflets and political propaganda.With accompanying text from German art professor and folklorist Oskar Seyffert.Undated; dated 1922 via institutional holdings.With the bookplate of P. Le P. Trench to the front pastedown, and a Christmas gift inscription addressed to Patricia Trench, dated 1924.A charming children's work, illustrated with fantastical toys and dolls. In the publisher's original cloth backed pictorial paper covered boards. Fading to back strip, with handling marks and light discolouration to board perimeters, and bumping to fore edge of front board. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Bookplate and inscription to front free endpaper. Pages bright, with instances of significant spotting to captioned tissue guards, but with pages clean and bright. Very Good.
