A single-fold promotional card for Sapanule, a glycerine lotion, which was produced by Samuel Gerry & Co. Proprietors and was purported to be cure "inflammatory pains and all cutaneous diseases." The pamphlet goes on to claim that it contains nothing poisonous and that the quantity used can be gradually increased as "the patients skin may endure the strength." There then is a list of a variety of ailments, and the directions on how to use Sapanule to cure each one. For example For Eczema or Boils one should use equal parts Sapanule and warm water while bathing. Or for diptheria one should add a spoonful of Sapanule to a tumbler of water and gargle with it. Samuel Gerry & Co. Proprietors were based in New York in the 1880s on 237 Broadway. The trade card has a lovely engraving on the front. It is an oriental scene in a garden featuring three women and four children at play. The card is folded in half and has two small brown stains on the back.
