Titre gravé sur cuivre, titre, 8ff , 140pp, 4ff, 1ff, 33 planches gravées sur cuivre In-12 en plein veau glacé miel, dos plat orné de fleurons, pièce de titre, plats ornés d un triple filet doré, fines dentelles intérieures, tranches rougies, mors supérieur fendu. Joaquim d Alencé est un astronome est physicien né en 1640 et mort en 1707, sont traité de l aimant est son premier ouvrage, Amsterdam 1687, et se veut exhaustif sur le phénomène du magnétisme. Très abondamment illustré de gravures sur cuivres souvent fort étranges, il traite ainsi des pôles positifs et négatifs de la répulsion et de l attraction. De la communication de l aimantation aux métaux . De la boussole, de ses propriétés et de ses mystères, Chapitre p48, que le centre du monde est le soleil, de quelques machines faites avec l aimant ; de la multiplication des pôles etc. La nature du magnétisme deviendra au 18ème siècle matière à de féconds débats : les questions sur le magnétisme animal et la nature de l électricité vont , en effet alimenter de nombreux échanges scientifiques et philosophiques notamment au siècle des lumières.
