Antwerpen or Köln, Aegidius and Joannes Sadeler, 1591. Series of 8 (of 13) fine etched and engraved plates, showing martyrs of the Old Testament. At bottom signed in the plates "M. de Vos inventor - Crisp. vande Passe sculpsit - Sadeler excudit". Below each image two lines of engraved explanatory text. c. 19,0-19,5 x c. 13,8-14,0 cm.*Franken, Van de Passe, Nos. 1-13. Hollstein, Dutch, XV, 283, No. 849. Wurzbach II, 305, No. 81. The engraver and publisher Crispijn de Passe the Elder began his career in Antwerp but by 1589 had fled via Aachen to Cologne; 1611 he moved to Utrecht, suspected of being a Mennonite. According to Franken published in Köln, according to Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (incomplete series) published in Antwerpen.
