Bound n the publisher's original and Purdy's primary binding of red cloth, the upper cover lettered and paneled to produce two vignettes from drawings by Hardy all in black, the spines lettered and decorated with sword and trumpet in gilt and black and with the two line ruled borders on the rear covers in blind. In good condition. Volumes have been re-backed preserving the original spines and endpapers. Spines are faded and darkened, with slight loss of cloth. Each volume with bookplate of noted collector Christopher Freville Huntley, and signature of Arthur C. Moore, June 1891. Boards with moderate rubbing, light soil and scuffing. Contents very good, generally clean with age toning and some scattered spotting and smudges. Volume II with an additional pencil signature of A.R. Stevens 1890 on the front pastedown. Small chip to top margin of title page and partial loss of side margin to pp. 59/60 in Volume III. Purdy notes the edition was printed in only 1000 copies.
