Un-clipped dust jacket shows repaired mini chips at spine ends and two tips with no loss of text, light even handling soil on cream background dj, still displays very well in new mylar. The two middle-aged ladies are the author and the 12 year-old mare she is riding across Spain on. Her interest in the breeding of Spanish horses and a fondness for the work of Richard Ford and George Borrow that brought her to Spain for the first time. This book is also an unconscious self-revelation of an intrepid Englishwoman. She is fascinated by animals and human nature, food, sanitation, architecture, she is concerned with religion, and she writes in a direct, compelling style with warmth, humor and candor. She writes under her maiden name, she is the wife of Mr. John Betjeman.
