Concerning two poems offered for publication: "Dear Mr. Wordsworth, I must apologise for having kept the poem by Brian Giles which you sent to Stephen Spender for so long. I believe he wrote to you about it and I can only add that I agree with him - it shows genuine talent and feeling, but I am afraid that I cannot use it in Horizon. Raymond Mortimer of the New Statesman sent us your own poem `The Temples of Shwe Dagon' as it was too long for publication by him. I feel that the whole is not quite up to the best parts, and I am therefore, returning it to you with regret". Together with corrected typescripts of the two poems referred to.
