A British Raj era letter, written by the Marchioness of Willingdon, while in India with her husband, Freeman Freeman-Thomas, 1st Marquess of Willingdon, who was serving as Governor of Bombay. Lady Willingdon organized the Bombay Presidency War and Relief Fund, and our letter is written on it's behalf. Reading in part: "My Women's War Fund is starting libraries for Indian Officers and Soldiers at Basra and Baghdad. It is very difficult to collect Vernacular Books down here and we want them in different Indian languages. Have you got any books, plays or magazines you can spare, old or new. We have already got a big European Library started at the above two places, and I am most anxious to give the Indian Troops the same pleasure and advantages as the British."
