Gilt lettering and design on spine still full and vivid. Moderate scuffing to both boards. Moderate foxing to top edge of textblock. Dust jacket is in very good condition. Moderate chipping to both ends of spine. Minor paper loss to head end of spine. Minor staining and scuffing to entire jacket. Original 4.50 price on front flap. Typee was Melville's most popular work during his lifetime; it made him notorious as the "man who lived among the cannibals".
