Very Early English Edition, same year as the first, of the Classic Story of Slavery and Christianity that inspired many during the American Civil War. 1852 stated on the Title Page. Antique gift inscription on half-title page also dated 1852. Well illustrated with 8 B&W Engraved Plates by John Leech, Gilbert & Others. Frontispiece illustrated with a delightful picture of Eva reading the Bible to Uncle Tom, protected by Tissue Guard. Green cloth Cover with blins embossed Decoration covering front, back & spine. Gilt Lettering to spine with original price 3/6 at the bottom. 483 Pages + Publisher's advert. 7 1/2" Tall, 540g. Spine colour slightly faded and tanned. Closed tears to cloth down left side of spine (4" long from the top and 1" long from the bottom.) Small bit of cloth missing from very bottom of spine. Cloth worn at tips of corners. Hinges cracked. One Plate loose. Pages in nice condition, only an occasional small spot of foxing. A little light foxing to some plates, mainly marginal.
