Two hundred and eighty (280) Annual Examinations of the University of Toronto, 1859-78, on the following subjects: 1.Mineralogy and Geology, Elements of Crystallography, and, Geology and Physical Geography (about 100 exams, 1859-78, with E. J. Chapman, Ph.D., LL.D. as one of the Examiners); 2.Civil Engineering, Surveying and Drawing, Geometry and Architecture (5 exams, all 1878, with J. Galbraith, M.A.; Assoc. Inst. C. E. as the Examiner); 3.Natural History, Histology and Botany, Zoology, Physiology (about 115 exams, 1859-78, with Rev. Professor Hincks, F.L.S. as one of the Examiners); 4.Physiology and Anatomy, Medicine Botany (about 60 exams, 1864-78, with Norman Bethune B.A., M.D as one of the Examiners--Henry Norman Bethune's grand-father). About 280 Annual Examinations (First Year, Second Year, Third Year, Fourth Year, Candidates for B.A., Honors and Scholarships) presenting the questions asked in each Examination, on about 430 printed pages, including 150 two-page exams and 130 one-page exams, plus 430 blank pages (no recto-verso printing). No title page, c. 1879. Original quarter-leather binding with marbled papers, and a title piece (very faint) on the spine stating "Examinations, Tor. Un.". Leather binding dried up, soiling/stains on the foredge, foxing on a few exams, but the text is in very good condition.
