Joseph Beuys, Untitled, c.1978. 105 x 150mm. Gold pen, green and black stamp, and gold and black sticker on white stock. Edition of no more than 120 copies, signed by the artist. The recto of this card features Beuys' signature written in gold pen, together with a gold and black sticker that reads 'Ich ernahre mich durch Kraftvergeudung', which roughly translates as 'I earn my living by wasting energy'. In the address below this statement, 'FUI/FVA' refers to 'Free International University' and the publishing house 'Freeie Volkshothschule Argental' ('Free Folk High School Argental'). Beuys co-founded the Free International University in April 1973, guided by principles of creative, democratic and interdisciplinary research outlined in a manifesto he co-authored in the same year. The verso of this card features one rubber stamp in green and one in black, '090' being the edition number. While not listed in the Beuys catalogue raisonne, according to Beuys experts this is a limited edition work of no more than 120 copies. Condition: light foxing and toning to both sides.
