Tight binding. 6 ½ x 4 ½, 106 pages, 6 ounces XX [From the introduction] Three at least of the four parts of the late Don Guillermo Joaquin de Osma?s APUNTES SOBRE CERAMICA MORISCA embody, beside material for the history of Valencian tile work and the earthen appliances for sugar manufacture made at Paterna, a core of documentation for the Hispano-Moresque pottery of the 14th and 15th century. The commentary of the APUNTES, learned and perspicuous as it is, remains, however, the prelude to investigations that are long overdue. Elucidation is still awaited of the terms for the different wares or styles of pottery, for which - the term obra de Malaga or obra de melica excepted - these texts are the only known source, and our knowledge of a great branch of ceramics attends the final denoument which should enable the Hispano-Moresque styles of at least one period to be fitted with the names under which they were contracted for. As the only Glossary of these Valencian trade terms that has appeared since the publication of the APUNTES leaves the problems of style nomenclature unsolved, a fresh critical survey of the text has been undertaken as a preliminary to essaying the identification, wherever it seemed possible, of the names of wares preserved in them. XX [Author] Albert van de Put (1876-1951), British curator; assistant, Victoria and Albert Museum UK, author of various articles and books on ceramics, tapestries, and ecclesiastical embroideries.
