16mo., 400 pgs. An 18th century original printing of a theological book popular in that era, here stated to be "A New Edition". The author describes the transition from earthly existence to the heavenly realms, a journey which he describes in great detail so the reader may prepare for the after-life to come. Like society on earth, the author instills a fear of being associated with those who do not make it to Heaven, and are made to suffer the company of the damned for all eternity ! This is a book that has had a hard life itself, but survived the journey. Scuffed original calf boards, which were once detached but then mended in an interesting way, with visible overcast sewing, double-threaded in a zig-zag manner, a seamstress technique that worked well on the front, but is giving way along the back board. Opening endpaper has a 1x2" loss, not affecting usage, nor the fine contemporary owner signature on that page. Book is else intact, and exceedingly rare in such an early imprint.
