LIMITED EDITION OF 272 COPIES (from an edition of 303)SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, this being No 8. Illustrated with copper engraved frontispiece by Stephen Gooden. Twenty two poems engraved on copper by Charles Sigrist. Privately printed for Douglas Cleverdon, 1934. Full brown crushed morocco with some slight discolouration in places. T.e.g. A lovely copy with the Prospectus for the book tipped in on rear endpaper, which informs us there are, additionally, 8 copies on vellum and 23 copies on large paper, for presentation. The prospectus also states the edition is 'distributed by Douglas Cleverdon'. LOOSELY INSERTED is a one and half page autograph letter from Cleverdon to Jim (Stevens Cox), dated Sept 13 1976, from 27 Barnsbury Square, in which he thanks his correspondent for The (Dorset) Year Book and makes extensive reference to 'The Queen of Cornwall', and his own copy which Thomas Hardy signed 'on the half title'. 'I was at a performance of The Queen of Cornwall when Hardy came over to Glastonbury to see it. It was "blustering weather" - the only weather I was told at the time, in which Hardy would go out.' .[probably Summer, 1924]. Cleverdon continues 'I can't remember whether Rutland [Boughton]'s score was published. He incorporated "When I set out for Lyonesse " (and possibly one other poem) as a song for Tristan.[T.H.] considered this his best lyric'. 28 lines signed 'Yours ever Douglas'.
