Book #13 in editor Lang's "color" collections of classic fairy tales, this one offering 35 tales both well-known & obscure, with gorgeous illustrations by longtime collaborator H. J. Ford throughout, including a Frontispiece & 7 more in full color, 25 other full-page plates in pen-and-ink, & 33 smaller drawings throughout the 388 pages. Orig. published in 1901, this is a "New Impression" (printing) from 1913 by the same publishers. Hardcover 12mo has deep violet cloth over boards, blindstamped with an elaborate illustration to front & spine; these were originally colored in but it has nearly completely worn off; the gilt to top outside page edges is still shiny & bright. Overall condition is Good: stitched binding & hinges are secure, but a bit fragile. Slight evidence of dampstaining in front matter only, continuing in a tiny semi-circle to top page edges until page 25. Pages creamy white & unmarked save for old gift inscription dated 1915 in pencil to ffep; some pages show a tiny nick to top edge. Plates are clean with mild tanning to margins, colors bright. Rubbing to extremities, with cloth tearing at head of spine & where spine meets both front & rear boards; corners bumped.
