Rowley, wife of one of the wealthiest men in PA of the mid-to-late 1800s, who founded Rowley & Hermance Co, an international woodworking machinery firm, was president of Edison Electric Illuminating Co. of Williamsport, vice president of Backus Manufacturing Co., director of multiple banks and trusts as well as an owner of cattle, and coal mines. Mrs. Rowley's calling card bears her West Fourth Street address in Williamsburg, a Victorian architectural masterpiece that was once converted into a convent, and now serves as a museum. Gilt top edge. Stamped gilt titles and five raised bands to spine. Etched portrait frontis with tissue guard. Spine sunned. Text block tight, clean. A Very Good copy in prize binding.
