Visual tools expert Roger Essley shows how to engage even the most reluctant learners in reading content area texts and absorbing the information and ideas they need to succeed in school and beyond. Essley’s simple but powerful storyboarding strategies dramatically improve students’ comprehension of text books, help students write about topics they’ve studied, and boost their retention of content-area vocabulary. Covers science, social studies, math, and technology applications-and shows how to help students tackle standardized tests. Also includes downloadable storyboard formats for the interactive whiteboard. For use with Grades 3–8.
For more than ten years Roger Essley has collaborated with teachers and students to develop inclusive visual tools that advance all learners. His work is informed by his own learning struggles with dyslexia. Essley has illustrated five picture books and is the author/illustrator of Reunion (Simon & Schuster, 1994). His artwork appears in museum collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art. He teaches classroom and professional development workshops and presents at national and regional conferences. With Scholastic. Essley has also published Visual Tools for Differentiating Reading & Writing Instruction (2008).
