A very good copy of the fourth volume of Swift's works, printed in 1738. The focus of this volume is Ireland and it contains, in addition to the Drapier Letters, several tracts which contain a wealth of satire and invective such as only Swift could produce. The tracts include the following titles: A Letter from a Member of the House of Commons in Ireland to a Member of the House of Commons in England Concerning the Sacramental Text; A Proposal for the Universal Use of Irish Manufacture in Cloaths and Furniture of Houses etc. Utterly Rejecting and Renouncing Every Thing Wearable that Comes From England; Some Arguments against Enlarging the Power of Bishops in Letting of Leases; A Letter to the Shop-Keepers, Tradesmen, Farmers and Common People of Ireland concerning the Brass Half-Pence coined by one William Wood, Hardware-Man, with a Design to Have Them Pass in this Kingdom. Bound in contemporary full calf. The binding is worn and scuffed with a couple of places where the leather has worn away in small holes to reveal the boards. Gilt spine lettering still legible but only just. However, that said, the binding is still extremely robust with no cracking or looseness. The text block is clean and sound with no significant markings other than the signature of James Dalrymple 1797(?) to the title page. While there is no way of knowing it seems that this may have been one of the descendants of James Dalrymple, 1st Earl of Stair. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers NT000887
