Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

[Tokyo 1941, Kato Hanga Kenkyusho]. Color woodblock print, excellent example, print:19.7 x 17.6 cm.,a small faint & subtle damp mark to upper left corner, else bright, on original backing sheet.RARE FIRST & ONLY ORIGINAL EDITION . *** **** *** . . FROM YUMEJI'S MOST FAMOUS PRINT SERIES PRINTS . . . TAMAKI SEATED EXAMINING AN INDIGO BLUE FLORAL CLOTH . . . A VERY RARE ORIGINAL 1941 COLOR WOODBLOCK PRINT . * This is a famous print from the series of ten issued by Kato Hanga Kenkyu Sho in 1941, during the height of World War 2, under the title: TAKEHISA YUMEJI SHI GA SHU: COLLECTION OF PICTURES BY TAKEHISA YUMEJI. . The series came in a large portfolio folder with a print laid down on the cover. Each print was gently tipped to a backing sheet of plain paper, and placed inside of a plain paper folding mat protector as issued. . *** THE PRINT: True to form, Yumeji drew his wife, Tamaki in a very sedate and peaceful scene. She sits on wicker chair with a cloth cover. . As usual she looks down in a subdued and somewhat depressed manner. She was the model for a large majority of his drawings, prints and book publications. . Please notice the hands are amorphous, the attention is always on the details of her face and expression. Though she holds an indigo-blue calico floral cloth, she seems to be focused on her own thoughts rather than on the textile. . This is Yumeji's raison d'etre, to focus all detail on his wife's feelings and expression. . There are no signatures or other stamps or Kanji writing on the print. It was one of the series of 10. . * NOTE: LOTS OF FAKES AND "LOOK-A-LIKES" OUT THERE: . We have found several very recent re-carvings, re-strikes and "lithographs" of this image, all of which are in gaudy colors, grossly different from this the original in tender pastels. None are the original item, all are illicit representations of this, the original, genuine item. . . !! BUYER BEWARE !! Caveat Emptor !! . . THEY DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THIS ANY MORE ! . *** PROVENANCE: The TAKEHISA YUMEJI SHI GA SHU was acquired by us when we purchased the entire inventory of the "ORIENTAL BOOK STORE" in Pasadena, August, 1976. The owner, Mrs. Hutchinson retired. She had purchased the store from Mr. & Mrs. P.D. & Ione Perkins, the compilers of excellent and most valuable monograph: "LAFCADIO HEARN: A Bibliography of His Writings" 1934. P.D. lived in Kyoto much of the time and send to his wife who was running the book store large quantities of Japanese imprints, art works and a myriad of other fascinating pre-World War 2 Japanese goods. There were many art portfolios among the inventory. . At the time we acquired three complete examples of the SHI GA SHU. We held aside one set for personal admiration. This the first time since 1976 we are offering the remains to our clients. . *** CONDITION: This is a an excellent original item. The prints in the portfolio collection all came with a standard backing sheet to which the print was lightly tipped down. . At the top left corner there is a very small, feint damp mark which is not immediately obvious. Otherwise the rest of the print is immaculate, fresh, without wear or issues. It has been properly stored between acid free papers since 1979. . The colors are fresh, vivid, there is no fading whatsoever. The impression is impeccable and the impression is rich and excellent. . By and large the in best collector's condition. . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *** RARITY: This series or individual prints from this series has seldom come to market in the last 65 years. . *** REFERENCE: .
