Undated but estimated to be 1890 - 1900 and the first single-volume issue (First published in 3 volumes in 1864 ). Size - c. 7.5 x 5 inches, , pp. v + 387, hardback in publisher's cloth. Book condition - Good plue ; the book has been re-furbished - new front endpaper and half-title (both done with paper taken from broken books of a similar period, so, while not perfectly matching the original paper, nevertheless blend well ), the half-title has been printed in a typeface very similar to the original, also the textblock spine has been re-glued and the casing's spine ends have been internally strengthened. The title page shows some mild tanning and there is some offsetting on the back (original ) flyleaf but the rest of the text block is clear of tanning or foxing, the back inner hinge is split but the back board is very secure, a couple of sections are starting but remain secure ; original publisher's green cloth with gitl title on the spine and front board ; corners a little bent but firm and with corner cloth showing some rubbing, back ( with blind publisher's monogram) is clean, back hinge is not split, spine is somewhat darkened with gilt title dulled but still readable, the spine also evidences a central crease, front is clean with just a few small marks and with gilt title and decoration a bit rubbed and dulled but still good.
