Problems associated with water resources are drawing widespread attention. This text discusses the properties and behaviour of water and the natural global processes related to water (the hydrologic cycle). Topics include: unusual properties of water, the hydrostatic paradox, Bernoulli's principle, and the phenomenon of "thermolift", which occurs in deep wells. Special attention is paid to the basic concepts of groundwater hydrology.
