This series of novels were exceedingly popular, being some of the most widely read novels for nearly a century. The series takes it's name from the first novel in the series, 'Waverley', which was published in 1814.Undated, dated by copies held institutionally. In the publisher's original blind stamped cloth. Externally generally smart with fading to the spines, bumping to the extremities, very minimal closed tears to the cloth to the head and tail of the spine to the odd volume, damp stains to the majority of the boards and closed tears to the joints to 'Volumes 1 and 9' with back strips listing slightly and with minimal loss to the cloth to the spine to 'Volume 9'. Offsetting and spotting to the endpapers. Internally binding tender in places with plate facing pp. 112 to 'Volume 20' disbound but present, otherwise generally firm, with generally bright pages and the odd spot.
