Light Tan coloured cloth-covered boards with black titling to the spine and a black illustration and title to the front board. In the original pictorial dustjacket which had been in bits, but has now been heavily repaired to the reverse of the d/j with clear archive tape, with some loss to the corners, to the head/tail of the d/j spine and a little missing to the top and bottom edges. Inner flaps present and Not Price Clipped. The d/j is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks a lot better. The boards are very clean but slightly worn to the very edges, and very slightly faded to the spine - all pretty negligible. The head/tail of spine is bumped and chipped with a little loss to the top. Page fore-edges lightly toned with age but as the paper is cream not a lot of difference. No Inscriptions, but a large (school) stamp, 4 cms in diameter, to the front free endpaper, o/w internally Excellent. 127pp. Includes 8 black & white photo illustrations (including the frontispiece) plus 1plan and a line drawing. Internally VERY CLEAN, TIGHT AND BRIGHT. " First published in the USA in the late 19th Century. The author went to San Francisco and then to Springfield Massachusetts in 1873 to study under the program set up by Yung Wing in which 120 Chinese boys would be sent to the U. S to be educated".
