About the Author: Proctor R. Bright s career has spanned from a shop boy, joining the Army and receiving the Bronze Star in tours in the Philippine and Asiatic-Pacific Campaigns, to owning one of the oldest African-American businesses in South Carolina and currently is a published author. He is a master mechanic with a dedicated passion for his work. An expert carpenter, he designed and built several houses and his garage. He is an accomplished guitarist/pianist and plays regularly for his church, and the local nursing home. He serves the office of deacon, and was a choir member. He is a certified florist, and has taught specialized classes in shop mechanics and welding for Jasper High School. He has served several terms on the Jasper County Live Oak Hospital and Tax Assessor s boards. Mr. Bright was a Sunday School teacher for many years and organized several programs in various churches. The community's need also provided an opportunity to serve as a 4-H volunteer leader assisting many functions in Rock Eagle, GA, and Clemson, SC. He was honored as Grand Marshall of the Dr. Martin Luther King Day Parade. In 2007, Mr. Bright was favored by his beloved state to become a Palmetto Patriot, in honor of his service and was privileged to have March 29th proclaimed as Proctor Bright Day in Ridgeland, S.C. for all time to come. Also in 2007, he co-founded He Whispered a Dream Foundation, Inc. a non-profit organization, designed to place resources and Christian literature with at-risk teens and seniors, our most vulnerable. In 2008, he has been selected by the Lt. Governor of South Carolina Office on Aging as the recipient of the 2007 Media Award and the Jasper County Caring Hands Foundation honored him with the 2007 Humanitarian of the Year Award. Mr. Bright, a humble man remains a loving and kind friend, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoys travel, is an avid fisherman, loves story- telling, family gatherings and is an accomplished cook.
