Johnson's action sequences skilfully provide readers with a realistic and provocative desription of the terrors of aerial combat experienced by many young Americans 60 years ago. In fact, realism and historical accuracy are the chief components of Johnson's style. In addition to researching relevant historical and technical data on U. S. Army Air Force training and combat operations during the period described in the book, Johnson spent many hours interviewing veterans who actually flew the Martin B-26 in combat. About the Author E. R. Johnson is a practicing attorney and aviation writer who lives and works in the Ozark Region of Arkansas. He served on active duty in the U. S. Navy, between 1968 and 1972, before completing his education at the University of Arkansas. Besides writing novels, he is a frequent contributor of non-fiction articles on aviation to numerous magazines and historical periodicals. A third generation airman, the author has flown eighteen different types of aircraft as pilot-in-command, including vintage biplanes and trainers of the World War II era. He currently holds the rank of major in the Civil Air Patrol, where he serves as a mission pilot and aerospace education officer.
